I seriously haven’t a clue as to why people ask this question, cause this debate or involve me in it.
Countless times a year, I read on some forum (yes, I am guilty of being involved on them) “hey man…who would win in a fight…Bruce Lee or Mike Tyson?”
Short answer, without any rationale or continued theory behind it?
Mike mother f’ing Tyson.
More detailed answer as follows:
How in the name of all that is holy, can a 135 lbs man, who had no, repeat NO proven fight(s) under his “belt” even be taken seriously against a PROVEN warrior like Tyson?
It is lore and legend that Lee fought, nothing more. There are no documents which prove his claim of being an unbeaten street fighter.
Even his god-like status, generated from the much controversial (due to no credible witnesses outside the Lee camp) with Wong Jack Man, had no “play by play” to document Lee’s ability.
What we are left with is “what if’s” and “oh, I saw Lee fight…he was the most dangerous fighter ever!” Oh, and of course, movies.
Movie star, life of luxury, world wide beloved icon and “inventor” of a style based out of distain for his own traditional training, Lee was a product of youth, college theory, obsessive fitness, fame and film.
In other words, he was soft…and I don’t care what made up facts you pull out of your ass, Lee wasn’t a fighter, he was a spoiled actor.
Tyson, on the other hand, size aside, beats Lee for several reasons, none of which Lee could relate to…PAIN.
Tyson wasn’t sent to America after being threatened to be beaten by Hong Kong street gangs…he WAS the street gang. This young man came from a life of pain, not privilege as Lee.
His youthful troubles with police and being adopted, no doubt attributed to some inner pain. Lee, born into a pre-celebrity life, had his world handed to him.
I don’t care who was faster either (if you ask me, Tyson was.) I don’t care who had the longer kick…Tyson took blows from heavy weight fighters and still knocked them all out.
When it comes to the pure WILL to win, Tyson destroys Lee seven days a week and twice on Sunday.
You can’t take a movie star, place him in the ring, street or movie set and expect him to even come close to beating a man who dominated the ring, came from the streets and was better in movies (his Hangover cameo was epic.)
Strip skill away and what are you left with? Will. Lee didn’t have it. Tyson didn’t invent the will to dominate, but he sure as hell perfected it.
Bottom line in this Bruce Lee vs Mike Tyson argument, is why is it even a question? Spoiled brat cha cha champ / martial arts theorist / movie star vs emotional pain ridden / criminal element / Heavyweight Champion of the World several times over…
So, before you email me, “hey Izzo…who wins in a fight…?” ask yourself this:
If you lost your parents, had your freedom taken away, lost your marriage to a money grubbing liar, were pulled and pushed by a thief / criminal promotor, had the world against you at times, total strangers backing you only for what you could do for them and whatever else emotional pain you could think of charging your will to win…who the hell could ever beat you? My answer: Not even Bruce Lee.
When you understand the unstoppable power of sheer will, you will understand what undefeated truly means.
